Bachelor in Civil Engineering

I am a Civil Engineer (B.E) and author of Mad About Construction. Here I will share my experiences with you about the construction. Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda are some of the African countries I have worked in. I have completed my Bachelor of Engineering in civil from Government Engineering College Bhuj. I have completed my Bachelor degree in 2014 and moved to Kenya, and worked in other African countries for the same company.

Construction and development is a crucial aspect of my life, whether it is my projects or my ability. My experience never mattered in my career because going out of my comfort zone, developing the required skills, and achieving the goal is my passion. The first project of my life was a residential building in Nairobi, Kenya. The second project was the sea wall, where we had reclaimed 5m of land into the sea by the historic finish sea wall and then built the road and Promenade. So I have learned so much variety of work in a short duration, which is an enjoyable experience. During the journey up to now, I have developed so many skills, and to become better in communication, I have started vlogging and blogging, and it has become my hobby. Below are the links to my YouTube channels and sites;

I was never overconfident about my speciality nor under-confident about the things I did not know. I always kept my workability simple – “I will attend any task will be given to me by my company and seniors”. This gave me so many opportunities to prove myself in lots of different areas in the construction field. As mentioned in my experience above, I have mostly worked on-site office. I loved taking a lot of pictures of ongoing construction activities. I had the freedom to experiment with new systems to help projects progress effectively in terms of speed, workmanship and management. I enjoyed working with the below task;

  • AutoCAD drafting
  • Construction documentation
    • Project Cash-flow
    • Progress Reports
      • Daily Site Diaries
      • Weekly Progress Reports
      • Monthly Progress Reports
    • Project Program (tracking only)
    • Creatig, Submitting and Tracking
      • RFI (Request for Infomation)
      • RFA (Request for Approval)
      • CVI (Confirmation of verbal Instruction)
      • CVA (Confirmation of verbal Approval)
      • Meeting Minutes
      • Valuation / Payment Applications
      • Contracts
      • Rate Analysis
  • Technical IT support (to my colleges)

Technical knowledge in the IT field was another advantage, I have. I could not stop learning in this part as well and it brought a lot out of me. After some time, it inspired me to start my website and Youtube. Now, I stay full time focused on construction, whether I work for my company or work on creating my content about construction.

Work Experience

Site Engineer (August 2014 to April 2015) | Parbat Siyani Construction Ltd

After completing the Bachelor of Engineering in Civil, I joined my family in Kenya and started working in One West Park, the residence building project for Parbat Siyani Construction Ltd. I was working as a Site Engineer for an initial period of probation.

Construction Manager (April 2015 to March 2018) | Seyani Brothers & Co (T) Ltd

After training in Parbat Siyani Construction in Nairobi, Kenya, my company transferred me to its parent company in Zanzibar, Tanzania, for Sea Wall and Promenade (Civil Project). This project had several parts like the historic sea wall, road and the Promenade. This project was the first project which I completed from beginning to end.

Contract Coordinator (April 2018 to July 2021) | Parbat Siyani Construction Ltd

After Completing the Sea Wall project in the previous parent company, I got transferred back to Nairobi, Kenya, in Parbat Siyani Construction Ltd for the ongoing project – The Promenade in Nairobi. The approximate project cost for construction was 25 million $.

Project Coordinator (January 2019 to August 2019) | Parbat Siyani Construction Ltd

I got an additional opportunity with my ongoing project – The Promenade. The Promenade is a mixed development building project, and on the 5th floor, a tenant hired our company as a tenant Interior contractor. As the client of the main building, they were occupying some area on 5th floor for their offices. I got the opportunity to work as a Project Coordinator simultaneously with the Promenade Project. It was a great experience to work in a prominent position on a small project.
