What is Concrete Hollow Block?
The concrete hollow block is the pre-cast concrete element produce to cast cheap and light construction elements like a lightweight concrete slab, lightweight wall, Stormwater channel etc. Hollow blocks have one or more hollow cavities and are designed with smooth or rough sides. It is also known as CHB (Concrete Hollow Blocks). Concrete hollow blocks could be produced with several concrete grads or classes as per the applications.
According to the requirement, Concrete hollow blocks can be manufactured. It is also known as concrete masonry units or concrete slab units. The selection of hollow blocks depends on their use; whether you are using it for the pot slab or using it for the block wall. The concrete hollow block shown in the above picture is a rectangle type, and the size is 400 X 200 X 200 mm, but it can produce as per the requirement at work. In 2014, I had visited one site; During my visit, slab casting was in progress. The design of the slab was a hollow pot slab. It was a composite of Concrete hollow blocks, Concrete and Steel. So, the hollow blocks are one idea that can be used as per the requirement to get light, cheap and durable structure/element in the construction.
It is designed to produce strong, light, cheap, sound resistant (Produce due to the movement of people, machines and other furniture and vibration) slab. It contains voids that save the concrete and the way its arrangement is designed, and it saves steel. Concrete rib in one direction between each row holds the hollow pots and connects with the beam. Hollow pot slab increases speed in construction as the whole activity can be split into different activities which can run parallel at site and production yard.
